Born in Newcastle, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, USA until the age of seven. Started dancing at the age of six, attended and matriculated from D.H.S. and he completed his B-Tech degree in Dance majoring in Choreography, at the Tshwane University of Technology in 2013.
The FIFA 2010 World cup closing ceremony gave him the opportunity to perform on an international platform. He then represented S.A. in the National dance team in Germany at the international Show Dance competition, and took first place. Worked with Timothy le Roux for his season entitled “Chronicles” by Timothy le Roux for the Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2011.
Phume then joined Kmad dance company in 2013 under the directorship of Kelsey Middleton and performed in the following: danced in Christopher Kindo’s: Me&You at the 25th anniversary of the Dance Umbrella 2013; Danced and choreographed a work for Kmad’s “Next Generation” season in 2013. Also danced and co-choreographed “SINS” which won a Standard Bank Standing Ovation Award at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2013. He participated in the Adele Blank tribute, hosted by the Dance Umbrella at Market Theatre, as well as Vikki Karras’s Tribute in 2014. Danced and co-choreographed Kmad’s new production “NO AIR” which won a Standard Bank Standing Ovation Award at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2014.
